  • Frédérique Turgeon was born into a family of skiers. Both of her parents initiated her into the sport.
  • She began skiing in 2002 at the tender age of three in Bromont, Quebec. Her first experience of skiing was when she was just 10 months old when her father strapped her to his back while skiing.
  • Frédérique Turgeon was born with Congenital Femoral Deficiency (CFD) which is a rare, non-hereditary birth defect that affects the pelvis, particularly the hip bone. The condition resulted in one of her legs being 50% shorter than the other.
  • In 2013, she broke her leg during a crash and after the crash, she stopped competing on both legs and started competing on just one leg.
  • In 2015, she took part in the 2015 Canada Winter Games which was held in Prince George, British Columbia.
  • Frédérique Turgeon joined the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team in 2017.

  • After recovering from her injuries, she took part in the 2023–24 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup which was the 58th World Cup season in alpine skiing for men and women which was held in Saalbach, Austria.
  • She winning a gold medal at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup was the one-legged skier’s first World Cup gold since 2019 as the competition was held on one of the most dangerous hills on the circuit.
  • Her performance was highlighted as a great comeback for the 2022-23 World Cup season. She was ranked second overall in the women’s World Cup standing downhill and won four medals for the season.
