ControversiesInvestigation by the Romanian Authorities: On 11 April 2022, the US embassy alerted Romanian authorities that an American might be held against her will at a property owned by Tristan Tate and Andrew Tate in Pipera, Romania. The police raided the house and a nearby webcam studio linked to the Tate brothers. During the raid, four women were found. Two of them, including an American woman and a Romanian woman, told the police they were being held against their will. This led Romania's anti-organised crime agency, DIICOT, to start an investigation into possible human trafficking and rape. Tristan and Andrew were taken in custody for questioning but released shortly after. The case received a lot of media attention, which drew more criticism against the Tate brothers. Tate Brother's Arrest and Charges: On 29 December 2022, Tristan Tate and Andrew Tate were arrested in Romania for human trafficking and forming an organised crime group. One of the brothers was also accused of rape. Authorities claimed that they tricked women into relationships and forced them to create explicit content. Six women were identified as possible victims. By January 2023, two alleged victims officially joined the case, while some women said they were not harmed. Authorities seized $4 million worth of luxury cars, properties, and cash, which could be used as compensation if the Tates were convicted. They were held in pre-trial detention for three months before being moved out to house arrest in March 2023 following a court ruling.

In August 2023, the restrictions were further eased, which allowed them limited freedom while still being monitored. However, on 21 August 2024, they faced other charges, including minors and money laundering. The next day, police raided their properties again and arrested them along with four others. Prosecutors stated that the case involved 35 victims, including a minor, and that the accused had made $2.8 million from exploitation. The Tates, however, denied all charges. [2]CNN

  • Tristan and Andrew ran The War Room, an exclusive men’s network that charged $8,000 for membership. It claimed to help men improve their wealth, fitness, and mindset.
  • The War Room was reportedly started in 2019 by Miles Sonkin (aka Iggy Semmelweiss) after meeting the Tates in 2018.
  • The War Room group chat contained about 12,000 pages of encrypted messages. These messages revealed that the group offered a course called “Pimpin’ Hoes Degree” (PhD).
  • The “PhD” course taught men how to seduce, manipulate, and isolate women to convince them to work as webcam models.
  • Some leaked messages from The War Room showed the group controlled women using manipulation and violence. Some women were even forced to get tattoos as a sign of obedience. However, Tate’s team denied the claims.
  • Tristan and his brother Andrew later created Hustler’s University, an online platform teaching people how to make money through cryptocurrency, copywriting, and e-commerce.

  • In 2022, Tristan and Andrew gained massive online attention after they encouraged Hustler’s University members to share their videos on social media. A report by The Observer found that TikTok was filled with accounts reposting their content, which helped it spread faster.
  • The platform was later renamed Hustler’s University 2.0 and then 3.0. However, Stripe, a payment company, stopped processing payments for them, and the affiliate program was shut down.
  • In October 2022, Tristan and Andrew introduced a new program called ‘The Real World’ after shutting down Hustler’s University. They chose this name because they believed society was like The Matrix and claimed their program helped people escape it.
  • The Real World was mainly for teenage boys. Some former students said it felt like a cult, and a lawyer for ex-members compared it to “digital grooming” for men.
  • In ‘The Real World,’  members called each other ‘G,’ while Andrew was called the ‘Top G.’ The program taught cryptocurrency, e-commerce, and drop shipping; it was based on Andrew Tate’s “41 Tenets for Men.”
  • In April 2022, Romanian authorities began investigating the Tate brothers after reports of women being held against their will. They were arrested in December 2022 and later charged with human trafficking, rape, and forming an organised crime group.
  • In 2023, the Real World Portal app, connected to The Real World, was taken down from Google and Apple’s app stores.
  • In January 2024, a report found that The Real World’s YouTube channel had 450 million views, while another channel reposting its content got 300 million views. Researchers claimed YouTube made £2.4million from ads on these channels, but YouTube denied this.
  • In May 2024, a security flaw on The Real World’s website exposed nearly 1 million user accounts, including emails, passwords, and 22 million messages.
