In 2022, Sam Bankman-Fried was accused of finding ways to get the Congress to win as it favored the FTX and was harmful to its decentralized finance competitors. He was also accused of pushing for regulations through the Digital Commodities Consumer Protection Act (DCCPA) by extensively lobbying Congress and also stated that he planned to spend "north of $100 million in the 2024 presidential election with a "soft ceiling" of $1 billions." An Insiders Avoidance Complaint filed against SBF
In July 2023, an Insiders Avoidance Complaint was filed by FTX Trading Ltd., Alameda Research LLC, Alameda Research Ltd., North Dimension Inc., Cottonwood Grove Ltd., and Realm Shires, Inc. According to the complaint, Guarding Against Pandemics which received $35 million from Bankman-Fried between October 2021 and May 2022 and its associated political action committee did not take any action to prevent pandemic.

Arrested for wire fraud conspiracy, securities fraud, securities fraud conspiracy, and money laundering :
On 12 December 2022, Sam was arrested by the Royal Bahamas Police Force. The same day, Southern District of New York charged Bankman-Fried with "wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy, securities fraud, securities fraud conspiracy, and money laundering." After his arrest, Sam was kept at Fox Hill Prison in Nassau for ten days after which he gave his consent to be extradited from the Bahamas to the United States to face the charges against him.

Additional charges filed against Bankman-Fried:
On 23 February 2023, he was charged with four additional criminal charges for making "more than 300 illegal political donations."

United States v. Bankman-Fried:
On 3 October 2023, the trial began at the Manhattan federal court during which Bankman-Fried faced seven counts of fraud and conspiracy. Numerous former employees of Alameda and FTX became testified as witnesses for Samuel's plea deal. On 2 November 2023, Sam was found guilty of seven charges. On 28 March 2024, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the federal court and fined him for $11.02 billion.

• Second Trial
The second trial of Bankman-Fried for additional five charges including bank fraud and bribery was scheduled for MArch 2024. These additional charges were charged by federal prosecutors after Bankman-Fried's extradition from the Bahamas in December 2022; however, in December 2023, the proseutors announced that they were going to dissmiss the second case as "its benefits would be outweighed by the strong public interest" and also the result of this trial will not have any effect on the first trial. • Accused of Witness tampering:
Before 11 August 2023, Bankman-Fried was given a bail and he began living with his parents under court ordered restrictions; however, on 26 July 2023, prosecutors accused him of witness tempering and after finding him guilty of the accusations the judge on the case cancelled Sam's bail and was given into the custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn.

  • Sam Bankman-Fried belongs to a Jewish family of educators. Since a young age, he disliked going to school.
  • During his seventh grade, he admitted to his parents about his dislike towards school and later, they got him admitted to a maths camp for the summer, which according to Sam helped with his problem-solving and managerial skills.
  • While pursuing his graduation at MIT, lived in a coeducational group house called Epsilon Theta. While living at the Epsilon Theta, he was appointed as its president.

  • During his second year at university, Bankman-Fried discovered a philosophy known as “effective altruism” which aims to build a better world by taking action based on research. According to one of the philosophy’s teachings, “earning to give”, Sam aimed to earn as much money as possible to give away generously to various causes.
  • In 2013, Bankman-Fried began working as an intern at an American proprietary trading firm named Jane Street Capital at the Wall Street, where he traded international ETFs.

  • In 2021, Sam Bankman-Fried was featured on the 30 Under 30 list by Forbes Magazine.
  • In 2022, Bankman-Fried donated $27 million in total to Protect Our Future PAC was launched as a political action committee of the Democratic Party to help lawmakers who play the long game on policymaking in areas like pandemic preparedness and planning.
  • In 2022, an American journalist said that Bankman-Fried had often donated to politicians who cultivate good Israel–United States relations but also claimed that “it was unclear if his backing of pro-Israel candidates was coincidental or motivated by any personal interest in Middle East policies.” In response, Bankman said that political donations were not being made to influence his policy goals for the cryptocurrency ecosystem but were made in good faith and to help in the great causes that reduced existential risks like nuclear war, pandemics, artificial intelligence, and threats to American democracy.

  • Later, due to the feud, the prices of the FTT and various other cryptocurrencies declined. On 8 November 2022, Zhao announced that Binance would be acquiring FTX and would do research on the company first. On 9 November, Binance Holdings reported that they would not acquire FTX because FTX mishandles customer funds and pending investigations of FTX.
  • On the next day, SBF announced that he was no more a billionaire and on 11 November 2022, all the firms owned by Sam including FTX, Alameda Research, and more than 130 associated legal entities declared bankruptcy and Bankman-Fried also resigned as the  CEO of FTX.
  • On 3 January 2023, Bankman-Fried pled “not guilty” to all the charges against him and on 1 February 2023, the judge assigned to Bankman-Fried’s case imposed more strictness on his bail and forbade Bankman-Fried from contacting current or former employees of FTX without the presence of any lawyers.
