Some Lesser Known Facts About Jahnavi Dangeti
- Jahnavi Dangeti got interested in space by listening to her grandmother, Leela Ramanadham’s stories and decided to become an astronaut when she was only 11 years old.
- When she got to know that astronauts do scuba diving during their zero gravity training, she travelled 25 km daily on her bicycle to do scuba diving near her home.
- She later became the youngest advanced scuba diver in India. She was once stung by a jellyfish and had a close encounter with a lionfish.
- In 2021, she was the only Indian to undergo the International Air and Space Program (IASP) at NASA Launch Operations’ Kennedy Space Centre in Alabama, USA.
- She got a scholarship from a Mexican company to participate in the session. During the camp, she completed her lifelong dream of flying a Cessna 172.
- She later became the first Indian girl to participate in a 10-day student program of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration).
- In July 2022, she met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to help her deal with financial challenges.
- She was the youngest participant in the Analogue Astronaut Training Centre (AATC) at Krakow, southern Poland, in 2022.
- In 2023, she published a scientific paper titled Robotics in Space: A Review.
- In June 2025, she was selected as an Astronaut Candidate (ASCAN) for the space mission of Titan Space Industries (TSI), a U.S.-based private agency engaged in space research.
- The mission includes Low Earth Orbit (LEO) twice, which takes around 5 hours each time. So, she will see sunrise and sunset twice and also experience zero gravity for 3 hours.
- She’ll be part of a major mission led by retired NASA astronaut Colonel William McArthur Jr., aimed at advancing scientific research and human spaceflight.
- Her 3-year training will start in 2026, which includes flight simulation, spacecraft procedures, survival training, medical and psychological evolutions.
