• Ethan Guo was born in China, but later shifted to the USA with his family.

• His interest in aviation started at the age of 13, and he earned his private pilot license when he was 17. Ethan is IFR-rated, which means he can fly the plane using only instruments, even without seeing the ground.

• Inspired by his cousin’s 2021 cancer diagnosis, Ethan decided to dedicate his flight to raise awareness for childhood cancer globally. His mission is to become the first person to fly solo to all seven continents in a small aircraft.

• He later became popular as a content creator/influencer with over 1.3 million followers on Instagram.

• Ethan’s goal was to raise one million dollars for childhood cancer research through his campaign supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

• He has already flown to all 48 contiguous U.S. states and crossed the Atlantic Ocean three times as a solo pilot.

• His full journey was designed to last 100 days, cover 80,000 kilometres, and include more than 60 countries on all continents.

• On Day 104 of the journey, Ethan flew from Kolkata to Bangkok but faced a weather emergency. To avoid a storm, he diverted and entered Myanmar airspace during monsoon season without proper communication with ATC.

• He landed in Mandalay after declaring an emergency, but was interrogated by authorities due to a lack of proper clearance. They released him the next day and told him to leave Myanmar soon.

• On 28 June 2025, Ethan took off from Punta Arenas, Chile, and flew without permission to Antarctica. He landed at Lieutenant Rodolfo Marsh Base in Chilean Antarctic territory after allegedly submitting a false flight plan.

• Chilean prosecutors stated that Ethan claimed he would only fly over Punta Arenas but diverted to Antarctica instead. He was detained in Antarctica and charged with violating aeronautical and international rules.

• Chilean authorities said his unauthorised landing endangered aviation safety in both Antarctica and the Magallanes region. Ethan was flying alone in a Cessna 182Q aircraft registered as N182WT when he made the landing.

• Due to poor weather conditions, he remained detained at King George Island without immediate permission to fly out. His lawyer stated that he faced unexpected complications during the flight and wanted to explore the route’s feasibility.

• A Chilean court has ordered a 90-day investigation into the case, during which he must stay in Chile.
