• He had a tough childhood. He started selling drugs at a young age and was often involved in street fights.

• His father was addicted to drugs and left home when Jackson was 10 years old, but came back in 2003.

• He joined the Raleigh-Egypt High School as a 17-year-old freshman and first tried combat sports through wrestling.

• He did well in wrestling and earned All-State honours in his senior year after finishing fifth in the state tournament at 189 pounds (86 kg).

• Jackson continued in Pride with a TKO win over Ikuhisa Minowa at Pride Shockwave 2003.

• After that, he fought with Ricardo Arona at Pride Critical Countdown 2004, where the winner would face Wanderlei Silva.
