Some Lesser Known Facts About Tilly Norwood
-
In September 2025, Eline Van der Velden, a Dutch comedian, writer, actress and producer, introduced Tilly Norwood, an AI actress, at the Zurich Summit.
-
Tilly Norwood was the first project of Xicoia, an AI talent studio from a company named Particle6.
- After that, Xicoia started meetings with Hollywood executives and agents who wanted to represent Tilly Norwood through their films or television programmes.
-
Eline Van der Velden said that other studios were also working on similar projects.
-
She added that her company had posted Tilly Norwood’s videos online, and many people had asked the studio to stop the experiment.
- The Instagram page for Tilly shared some of her short videos with captions. In one of her videos, Tilly wrote,
In 20 seconds I fought monsters, fled explosions, sold you a car, and nearly won an Oscar. All in a day’s work… literally! Find yourself an actress who can do it all. (hi 👋) so, which tilly are you today.”
- Eline Van der Velde revealed at the Zurich Summit that her company, Xicoia, was close to making a deal for Tilly’s management.
- She shared in the media that if she signs with an agent, Tilly would be one of the first AI actors to have professional representation, which was previously only for human actors. Van der Velde said,
When we first launched Tilly, people were like, ‘What’s that?’ Now we’re going to be announcing which agency is going to be representing her in the next few months.”
- In September 2025, Tilly Norwood first appeared in a comedy picture titled ‘AI Commissioner,’ which was about the future of television.
-
Norwood shared on one of her social media accounts that she was excited about her first role in this film.
-
After that, when some agents showed interest in hiring Tilly Norwood, some Hollywood actors protested against it.
-
Hollywood actress Melissa Barrera expressed her wish on social media that actors working with those agents would stop. She described the situation as insensitive.
-
Another actress, Mara Wilson, asked why the studio did not hire and pay those real young women whose faces were used to create Tilly Norwood.
- In response to the criticism, Van der Velde said that Norwood was not made to replace humans. She described Norwood as a “piece of art.” She said,
To those who have expressed anger over the creation of my AI character, Tilly Norwood, she is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work – a piece of art. Like many forms of art before her, she sparks conversation, and that in itself shows the power of creativity.”
She stated that AI would not replace humans; it is simply an animation, which cannot replicate the joy of a human performance. She said,
I see AI not as a replacement for people, but as a new tool, a new paintbrush. Just as animation, puppetry, or CGI opened fresh possibilities without taking away from live acting, AI offers another way to imagine and build stories. I’m an actor myself, and nothing – certainly not an AI character, can take away the craft or joy of human performance.”
-
Earlier, AI has been used to make actors look younger. It has also brought back the voices of actors who have passed away.
-
AI also helped in creating film trailers. However, this is the first time that an AI actress might become popular in the mainstream.
