| Controversy | Resignation over viral sex tape In 2016, H. Y. Meti was serving as the Minister for Excise in the Government of Karnataka. On 7 December 2016, he resigned from his post after a CD was released showing him involved in a sexual act. On 11 December 2016, a woman appeared in a televised interview and accused Meti of seeking sexual favours in exchange for a transfer. The same woman clarified that she was not the person seen in the sex video. On 12 December 2016, RTI activist Rajashekar Mulali filed a complaint with the police, claiming he had received death threats from Meti and his supporters. Mulali said the threats were because he had earlier stated that he possessed a sex CD involving the minister. Meti denied all allegations, describing them as part of a political conspiracy meant to damage his reputation. He stated that he was not involved in any immoral activity and challenged Mulali to release the video publicly. During the investigation, the original video was reported missing. On 24 May 2017, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Karnataka Police completed its inquiry. The CID gave Meti a clean chit, stating that the video was doctored and not genuine. Later, on 18 August 2017, a woman who claimed to be the one seen in the video filed a police complaint accusing Meti of kidnapping and rape. |
