Some Lesser Known Facts About Namansh Syal
- Namansh Syal wanted to join the Indian Army since childhood.
- After completing his Class XII, he enrolled at the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur in 2005. After his first semester, he cleared the SSB and joined the NDA’s 115th course in 2006.
- He was appointed academic cadet captain during training and led the NDA passing-out parade in November 2008. He received the President’s Silver Medal in 2008 for securing high overall merit at the NDA.
- He was commissioned as a fighter pilot in December 2009 after completing his Air Force training. He flew MiG-21 aircraft during his early operational postings in the Indian Air Force.
- He later flew the Su-30MKI fighter aircraft after completing conversion training. He subsequently joined the Tejas squadron at Sulur Air Force Station in Coimbatore.
- At Hakimpet Air Force Station, he served as a flying instructor on the Kiran trainer aircraft.
- His father was looking for his videos at the Dubai Air Show when he first found out about the accident and Namansh’s death.
- He was flying a Tejas Light Combat Aircraft during a low-altitude aerial display at Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport on 21 November 2025.
- The aircraft lost control during the display, plunged to the ground, and caught fire immediately. Eyewitness videos showed the aircraft nosediving before exploding into a large fireball with thick smoke.
- The Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that he sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The Air Force ordered a court of inquiry to determine the cause of the Tejas crash.
- His mortal remains were first flown to Sulur Air Force Station near Coimbatore on 22 November 2025.
- The Coimbatore District Collector laid a wreath as Air Force personnel and officials paid their respects. His body was then flown to Kangra airport in Himachal Pradesh on 23 November 2025.
- From Kangra airport, his remains were taken to his ancestral village in Nagrota Bagwan for the last rites. He is survived by his wife, who is also an Indian Air Force officer, their daughter, and his parents.
- His last rites were done on 23 November 2025 in his native village.
