Some Lesser Known Facts About Majid Khademi

  • Majid Khademi, or Majid Hosseini, was a long-time employee of the Iranian security and intelligence set-up in various senior capacities.
  • He had two doctorates, one in national security, and the other in strategic defense sciences.
  • His real name was a tightly held secret in the circles of IRGC.
  • Since about 2014, Khademi has been associated with a potential successor to Hossein Taeb, who was the leader of the IRGC Intelligence Organization at that time.
  • He had a long history of counter-espionage and obtaining military and nuclear programs, which made him an automatic candidate at the time itself.
  • He succeeded Asghar Mirjafari as the head of the Intelligence Protection Organization of the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics in May 2018.
  • He served in this position up until 2022. In June 2022, he was appointed to lead the IRGC Intelligence Protection Organization.
  • On 29 July 2022, he was formally inducted. In this capacity, he worked on internal surveillance and counter-espionage in the IRGC.

  • His predecessor Mohammad Kazemi was killed by Israeli airstrikes on 15 June 2025, during what was called the Twelve-Day War.
  • On 19 June 2025, Khademi replaced Kazemi as the head of the IRGC Intelligence Organization directly.
  • On 6 April 2026, Tehran was airstriked by Israeli forces. In one of these strikes, Khademi succumbed to death.
  • Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz made the confirmation of the killing following a meeting with IDF Chief of Staff Lt Gen Eyal Zamir.
  • The Supreme Leader of Iran Mojtaba Khamenei denounced the assassination and praised the decades of service of Khademi in the national security, intelligence and defence.
  • The IRGC referred to the strike as a terrorist attack and held the United States and Israel responsible.
