- Bhatia studied economics at Cornell University in the United States, where he received the 2001 Class Award.
- He maintains ties with Cornell to this day. He has served on the university’s External Advisory Council for Internationalization and worked as a guest lecturer at the Johnson School of Management.
- Over the past twenty years, he has endowed several scholarships for undergraduate students and grants for PhD students at Cornell. Cornell’s Olin Library named its Libe Café after him, calling it the Amit Bhatia Libe Café.
- Bhatia began his working life at Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley in New York, before moving to Credit Suisse First Boston in London.
- In 2004, Bhatia married Vanisha Mittal, daughter of steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal.
