  • He belonged to an academically inclined family, where his father was a professor and later became the college principal in Thane.
  • As a child he battled with polio disease.
  • He topped the University of Mumbai in his MD examination before beginning psychiatric practice in 1986.
  • In 1980’s he was a key figure in the establishment behind the establishment of Muktangan, the Pune-based de-addiction and rehabilitation center.
  • In 1990, he co-founded the Institute for Psychological Health (IPH) along with his colleagues, with the aim to destigmatize the taboos around mental health and raise awareness.
  •  He aimed at making mental health conversations accessible to ordinary people.
  • He has authored 25 books which covered topics related to Menta health, philosophy and personal growth. His books were majorly written in Marathi, while some of his books were later translated to English and Braille.
  • He has worked as a creative consultant to various Marathi films like Devrai (2004) and Kadachit (2007), both were based on psychological themes.
  • In 2020, during the Covid- 19 Pandemic, Dr. Anand Nadkarni held various workshops and conducted more than 450 online webinars to support individuals and families suffering from uncertainty and isolation.
