On 3 June 2026 Lavkesh Bajaj was arrested after a fire broke out at one of his properties, Flourish Stay B&B hotel, that killed 21 people. According to the police hotel had more rooms than permitted and lacked proper fire safety arrengements.

  • Lavkesh Bajaj hails from Saket area of New Delhi. He has been involved in the hospitality and guest-house business for many years.
  • In 2022, he purchased a building in Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar, which had earlier been used as a garment factory and later he converted it into a bed-and-breakfast property. Even at that time, the building was in a poor condition.
  • According to some reports, Bajaj initially started his business in a two-storey building and later added two and a half floors to it.
  • He then obtained a license under the Delhi ‘BnB’ (bed-and-breakfast) scheme, under which only six rooms are allowed.
  • However, due to the steady flow of foreign patients visiting the nearby Maxx Hospital, he started operating 25 rooms, including some in the basement.
  • Bajaj constructed two more floors to the originally two-storey building despite the permit limitations.
  • Additionally, he had never obtained a Fire Safety No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department for the building.
  • Lavkesh has obtained B&B license on the name of his accountant Jai Mishra. He has also handed over the entire management of his all his hotel to Jai Mishra.
  •  In 2024, Delhi Police registered an FIR against him for failing to manage certain security requirment, including installation of CCTV camera, no fire exit, and only single entry and exit door.
  • In 2025, Lavkesh was arrested by the Delhi Police in a case linked to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. He was accused of helping two Bangledesi women in obtaining Indian identity documents, including passports using forged documents. According to police,

The case was registered in January, and he was arrested months later after police found his connivance during the investigation. He was sent to Tihar Jail and came out on bail after 15 days.”

  • In June 2026, Lavkesh Bajaj came into news, after a major fire broke out at his Flourish Stay in Malviya Nagar, that resulted in the deaths of 21 people, including 12 foreigners and injuries to several others on 3 June 2026.

  • After the fire incident, Delhi Police issued a Lookout Circular against him and his wife, because police were suspecting that he would try to flee the country as both of his children are settled in abroad. The police were also searching for his accountant, Jai Mishra.
  • Few hours after the incident, he was arrested and police registered a case related to alleged safety violations and negligence.
  • During the investigations, he admitted that while the guests were struggling to escape the fire, he fled the scene after the fire broke. He also confessed that the hotel was operating without a mandatory Fire Safety NOC.
  • Apart from Flourish Stay B&B, Bajaj also owns two other hospitality properties, including Lemon Green and Micasa. Lemon Green and Flourish Stay he owned solely, while Micasa he co-owned with three other individuals.
  • In the investigation, police found out that one another property, Urban Oasis, is being associated with Lavkesh Bajaj. According to some report, the building has a single entry and exit point, that is raising concerns similar to Flourish Stay fire tragedy.
  • On 4 June 2026, Delhi court sent Lavkesh Bajaj to five days of police custody, so that investigators could question him about the hotel fire and the operation of his other hotels.
