- Before joining the civil services, Dixit completed his medical education and earned a doctor of medicine’s degree in Psychiatry from B.J. Government Medical College (BJGMC), Pune.
- In 1993, Mahesh joined the Indian Police Service of the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
