• Oksana Voevodina grew up in Taganrog, Russia, in a strict Cossack family. She was the eldest of three siblings.

• As a child, Oksana Voevodina attended an Oxford summer school where she learnt English.

• The reality show Love Island featured eleven young Russians living together in a luxury villa. One of the contestants was a woman named Ksenia-Nikol. She became well known on the show after getting close to a male contestant named Elisey Polischuk on the first day of the show, and the two later had sex in the swimming pool.

• Later, in 2019, some media reports claimed that Oksana Voevodina was Ksenia-Nikol in the show. A fellow contestant supported this claim during an interview with a Russian newspaper.

• On 22 November 2018, the couple secretly married in Moscow, Russia. She became the Sultan’s second wife. Reportedly, his first wife was Sultanah Nur Diana Petra, who was not aware of his second marriage.

• After that, the marriage was widely discussed and aired as news on social media. However, no official statement was released to confirm or deny the marriage as of 2019.

• Oksana Voevodina once explained her first meeting with Sultan Muhammad V during a media talk. She said that she met him in 2017 at a jewelery event in Europe where she was working as a model. She said,
  

  After the event, we went for dinner, where I met a man, and he introduced himself as the King of Malaysia. I took it as a joke and joked back that I was also the Queen of Moscow. We talked all evening and exchanged phone numbers.”

• During the same period, her father stated in a media conversation that his daughter had telephoned him and described her meeting with a king. He said,
  

  The same evening my daughter rang me. She said that ‘Dad, I met a man at the jewellery fair. He introduced himself as a king. Shall I continue to stay in touch with him?.’’

  Her father then advised her to ignore Sultan’s royal status and focus on what kind of person he was.

• On 6 January 2019, Sultan Muhammad V stopped working as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia. His term was due to end in 2022.

• During that time, it was reported that his decision was linked to opposition to his marriage to Voevodina.

• Their marriage was kept private, before the birth of their son.

• On 21 May 2019, media reports claimed that the couple welcomed a son and named him Tengku Ismail Leon Petra bin Tengku Muhammad V Faris Petra in Moscow.

• In June 2019, during a media interview with a Russian television presenter and opposition politician Ksenia Sobchak, Oksana Voevodina said that Muhammad V’s first wife, Diana Petra, had contacted her and her father.

• According to her, Diana insulted them and threatened her son. This news was then widely telecasted by British and Russian media.

• She said that Sultan divorced his first wife, Diana, in 2008.

• On 22 June 2019, about a month after their son’s birth, Muhammad V divorced Oksana Voevodina in Singapore through “talak tiga” (third talaq), also called talaq baayin.

• This is an irrevocable form of divorce in which the husband ends the marriage by declaring the divorce. It is considered the most disliked type of divorce in Islam.

• Later, Oksana Voevodina shared photos of their life together on Instagram.

• On 6 September 2019, the Kelantan palace released an official statement in which it stated that the posts about the monarch’s private life circulating on social media were inappropriate, defamatory, and untrue.

• After that, Sultan Muhammad V expressed regret in a public statement that his personal decisions had caused confusion among the public. In his statement, he did not mention anyone by name. However, it confirmed that the marriage had taken place.

• Reportedly, Muhammad V divorced her because he was very uncomfortable with the rumours surrounding Oksana Voevodina’s past life.

• Sultan was then questioned whether he was the father of Oksana’s son.

• After her divorce, Oksana Voevodina started working in real estate and investment sector.

• She once stated in the media that she liked skating and riding bikes in her college days. She said,
  

  When I was at school, I was a kind of bandit. I liked some skaters, bikes, BMX, guys who took part in competitions. I love riding a bike too. I was a good pupil.”
