  • Syed Aamer Raza belongs to the 22nd course of the Officers Training School (OTS) in Mangla.
  • In 1988, he was commissioned into the 6th Lancers of the Pakistan Army.
  • During his military career, he held several important command positions.
  • In November 2007, he was appointed at the 6th Lancers, and he served in the position till September 2009.
  • He then commanded an armored brigade and an infantry brigade in South Waziristan.

  • Later, during his service as a Major General, he commanded the 37th Mechanized Division in Kharian.
  • Syed Aamer Raza had also served as the Chief of Staff at II Corps.
  • He was then appointed as the Director General of the Weapons and Equipment Directorate at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
  • Apart from being a military officer, he is also an instructor. He taught at the School of Armour and Mechanized Warfare in Nowshera.
  • He then served as the Chief Instructor and Director of the Faculty of Research and Doctrinal Studies at the Command and Staff College in Quetta.

  • On 11 October 2022, Syed Aamer Raza was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, a three-star rank in the Pakistan Army.
  • As Chairman of HIT, Lieutenant General Raza played an important role in upgrading and modernizing the Al-Khalid tank series.
  • Under his leadership, HIT locally produced the Haider tank, which was a copy of a Chinese VT-4 tank variant and was produced under a technology transfer agreement. The tank became one of the advanced capabilities in manufacturing tanks in Pakistan.
  • He served in this position until 16 May 2023.

  • On 16 May 2023, Syed Aamer Raza was appointed as the Commander of the IV Corps in Lahore. He replaced Lieutenant General Salman Fayyaz Ghani after the 9 May 2023 riots happened in Pakistan.
  • On 24 January 2025, he was appointed Chief of the General Staff (CGS). He replaced Lieutenant General Avais Dastgir, who was then appointed as the Commander of V Corps in Karachi.
  • On 24 July 2026, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif promoted Raza from Lieutenant General to the rank of four-star General.
  • He was also appointed as the first Commander of National Strategic Command of Pakistan.
  • On 31 July 2026, President Asif Ali Zardari presented the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) award to Syed Aamer Raza.
