- Akash Deep is an Indian cricketer. He represents Bengal in domestic cricket. He represented Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in many IPL seasons.
- He used to play cricket in his locality during his childhood; however, being from a poor region, he did not have any serious aspirations of becoming a cricketer, particularly a pacer.
- In 2007, he watched the final of the T20 World Cup held in South Africa which India won after which he made up his mind to become a professional cricketer.
- Akash Deep went to Durgapur, West Bengal in 2010 and started training at a cricket academy. Due to some family problems as his father suffered paralysis, he soon came back home. When he visited Kolkata for his father’s medical treatment in 2012, he played a few games which sparked his interest again.
- While growing up, he used to play as a batsman, but after he visited Kolkata in 2012, he started working on his bowling skills and became a pacer with decent speed by 2015.
- In 2015, Akash Deep suffered personal setbacks with the deaths of his father and brother within a gap of six months. He moved to Delhi in 2016 where he stayed with his elder sister.
- One of his friends invited him to Kolkata later which changed the path of his life. He started playing cricket and later played for United Club and Mohun Bagan Athletic Club.
- Though Akash Deep regularly played for clubs, he did not see his career progressing to a bigger level. A chance meeting with the Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami, changed him as Shami told him to focus on his mindset and physical conditioning for the international stage.
- He struggled financially and shared a 12 x 12 room with four people when he was playing club cricket. Saurashish Lahiri trained Akash Deep when he was a member of the Bengal Under-23 team.
- Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly played a huge role in Akash Deep’s career as his program Vision2020, launched in 2014, shortlisted Akash from the pool of age-group cricketers and provided him with the necessary training to become a good fast bowler. Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar was also shortlisted in the same program and later formed a lethal bowling pair with Akash.
- In 2019, he played debut matches for Bengal in all formats of cricket. He represents the Rest of India team in domestic BCCI tournaments.
- Akash Deep was a member of the Indian squad for the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, India which won the gold medal.
- He was a net bowler for Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) in 2021. He had to leave in the middle of the season as his elder aunt and sister-in-law passed away due to COVID-19 during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. He took care of his mother who also tested positive and was able to cure her from the virus.
- Akash Deep was included in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad during the second leg of the 2021 IPL season held in UAE. During the auction for the 2022 IPL season, he was acquired by RCB for Rs 20 lakhs.
- On 27 March 2022, he made his IPL debut against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and took 1 wicket for 38 runs. He later said that Virat Kohli and Josh Hazlewood were his idols, and they taught him about match strategies.
- In December 2023, he was included in the touring Indian ODI team squad against South Africa.
- In an interview, Akash said that before Virat Kohli gave him his IPL cap, his best cricketing memory was MS Dhoni’s iconic six in the final of the 2011 World Cup.
