• Anita Sheoran is an Indian wrestler who has won several medals at various championships, including the Asian Wrestling Championships and the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships.

• In 2005, she competed in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship under the 67 kg category and won bronze.

• Sheoran competed at the 2008 World Wrestling Championships; however, she was defeated by a Polish wrestler named Agata Pietrzyk in the first round; Agata Pietrzyk won bronze in the championship.

• Anita gained weight after participating in the 2008 World Wrestling Championships and competed at the 2009 National Wrestling Championship, held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, under the 63 kg category. She defeated Geetika Jakhar and won gold.

• In 2009, she won silver under the 63 kg category at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships, held in Jalandhar, India; she defeated Canadian freestyle wrestler Justine Bouchard.

• Sheoran won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the 67 kg freestyle category. She is recognized as one of India’s trailblazing female wrestlers, achieving international success. She made history by winning a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in New Delhi. • In 2011, she won silver at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships, held in Melbourne, Australia, under the 63 kg category; she lost the final against Canada’s Dorothy Yeats.

• In the same year, she represented Haryana at the National Games of India or the 34th National Games of India, held in Ranchi, Jharkhand. She won gold by defeating Manipur’s N Tombi Devi in the 63 kg category.

• Sheoran participated in the Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament in the 63 kg freestyle category, aiming to secure a spot for the 2012 Summer Olympics. She achieved a bronze medal but unfortunately did not qualify for the Olympics. The criterion was to reach the final, which she did not fulfil; Sheoran won the bout against Min-wen Hou from Chinese Taipei; however, she was later defeated by Olympic medalist Yelena Shalygina.

• Anita again represented Haryana at the 35th National Games of India in Kerala in 2015. She won gold after defeating Uttar Pradesh’s Rajni by 4–2 in the final round of the women’s 63 kg freestyle category.

• Anita won silver under the 67 kg category at the 2013 Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in Johannesburg, South Africa, after losing in the finals against Nigerian wrestler Ifeoma Iheanacho.

• Sheoran participated in the 2015 World Wrestling Championships, held in Las Vegas, United States, under the 63 kg category. She won the first round against Nadiia Mushka by 9–1; however, she was defeated in her subsequent bout, losing 2–5 to Colombia’s Sandra Roa. In the same year, she won gold under the 63 kg category at senior nationals.

• In 2019, she took part in the Pro Wrestling League Season 3 and represented team ‘NCR Punjab Royals’ under the 62 kg category. Sheoran won gold after defeating UP Dangal’s Navjot Kaur at the competition.

• Anita Sheoran contested the Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) presidential elections in 2023, becoming the only female candidate to contest the elections. The elections were held to take over the seat left vacant by Brij Bhushan Singh, who was ousted from his position as WFI president following numerous allegations of sexually exploiting women wrestlers over a decade-long period including Anita Sheoran; these allegations came to a head on 18 January 2023. Anita, however, lost the election to Sanjay Singh, who is considered to be Brij Bhushan’s aide.
