Some Lesser Known Facts About Ankur Vora
- Ankur Vora grew up in Gujarat, India.
- In the 1970s, his parents moved from India to New York. Later, they decided to move back to India and start a health NGO with their friends.
- In 1998, Ankur began working as a lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago. Until 2003, he taught courses in Microeconomics, Economic Growth and Development, and International Finance.
- In 2001, briefly worked at Goldman Sachs as an associate in the Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities (FICC) division.
- He served as the principal of the Boston Consulting Group from 2003 to 2009.
- In 2009, he became the Director of Programmes at The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation in London, United Kingdom. He led programme-related initiatives at the foundation and served in this position till 2013.
- In 2013, he joined the Gates Foundation as Deputy Director, Strategy, in Seattle.
- In September 2015, he was promoted to Director, Strategy, Innovation, & Impact at the Gates Foundation. In this role, he led the Strategy, Measurement and Evaluation, and Special Initiatives teams.
- In July 2017, Ankur joined the Board of Innovations for Poverty Action and served in this role until July 2023.
- While serving on the board, he supported an organisation that uses research to reduce poverty by helping policymakers and practitioners make better, evidence-based decisions across multiple regions worldwide.
- In June 2020, he was promoted to Chief Strategy Officer at the Gates Foundation in Seattle. In this position, he led the overall strategy and advised the Chair/CEO on key priorities and resource decisions.
