Some Lesser Known Facts About Aparna Thyagarajan

  • At the age of 12, she designed her first clothing.
  • Aparna worked as a software engineer at Aboundsoft Solutions, Chennai, from July 2001 to June 2002.
  • In January 2005, she joined Microsoft as a Software Design Engineer in the Testing department of Microsoft Dynamics AX in Redmond Washington and worked until April 2007.
  • She was promoted to Software Design Engineer 2 in the Social and Community platform at Microsoft in April 2007. For this, she relocated to California, where she worked until August 2011.
  • In September 2011, she was promoted to Technical Lead on Bing’s Social search team at Microsoft and worked until May 2012.
  • After leaving her job at Microsoft, she and her sister Ambika Thyagarajan co-founded the company Shobitam on 8 March 2019.
  • In 2019, Shobitam started by selling 15 products on Etsy, an online shopping store. Within two years the company witnessed 300% growth and earned Rs 9 crore in revenue.
  • In 2020, they launched their website Shobitam.com and listed more than 1000 products.
  • Shobitam aims to provide fashionable ethnic wear such as dupattas, ready-made blouses, jewellery and home decor items to people across the globe.

  • Shobitam Give and Shobitam Cares is an initiative by the Shobitam Group to help and educate underprivileged people of India. Shobitam collaborates with different NGOs and social organisations to work for the betterment of society. They donate 1% of their order value to the NGO’s and social organisations.
