- After his postgraduation, he moved to the United States to study MBA at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) but returned to India for a second master’s degree as he had completed only 15 years of education, whereas the US universities required 16.
- Initially, in 1979 he wanted to work at a consulting firm and by 1981, he wanted to work at an investment bank.
- Weeks before working at an investment bank, he decided to become a TA (Teaching Assistant) for an accounting class due to a lack of funds.
- In an interview, he revealed that within 15 minutes of teaching for the first time, he decided to become a teacher and applied for the PhD program at the university.
- He has served as a professor at New York University (NYU) Stern School of Business, United States since September 1986.
- He was a visiting lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1984 to 1986.
