Bhagyashree comes from a lower-middle-class family of a farmer.

Bhagyashree was born as an abled person but in 2006 she met with an accident that left her disabled and dependent on a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

After the accident, Bhagyashree fell into a deep depression and contemplated the meaning of life.

It was with the help of a Marathi journalist named Prakash Kamble that Bhagyashree was able to overcome her depression. Prakash Kamble also encouraged Bhagyashree to take up wheelchair sports.

Bhagyashree competes in the shot put F34 category.

Bhagyashree won multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals in district, state, and national level disabled sports competitions.

In 2019, Bhagyashree made her international debut in the World Para Athletics Games in China.

Bhagyashree went on to represent India at the 2021 Feja World Cup, the 2020 Summer Paralympics, the 2022 Asian Para Games, and the 2024 World Para Athletics Championships.

Bhagyashree and her fellow para-athlete, Sumit Antil, will be the flagbearers of the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympics in 2024.
