Some Lesser Known Facts About David Bedingham

David’s grandparents from both sides were born in England, and his father was born in Zimbabwe. All the members in his family had a British passport except him and his brother.

Apart from cricket, David also played rugby in his childhood.

While growing up, Jacques Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs were David’s childhood heroes. He also liked Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma while growing up.

David Bedingham played for South Africa U19 in 2012-13 with the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Aiden Markram.

David was regarded as one of the promising young talents before he met with an accident which derailed his cricketing journey for some time. In an interview, he said,

I was at a golf day in Stellenbosch, it was a hot day. The event started at 8am and I played until lunch. After the golf day, I dropped my mate off at hostel. As I was driving back home in Cape Town, I drove into another car. I don’t exactly know what happened but I think I fell asleep behind the wheel. I broke my femur, hand and jaw.”

David made his first-class debut for Northerns in the 2012–13 CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition on 14 March 2013.

David was the leading run-scorer in the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge tournament for the Boland cricket team; he scored 283 runs in seven matches. He was also the top scorer in the 2017–18 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup for Boland, with 790 runs in eight matches.

In April 2021, David scored his maiden double century in first-class cricket against Derbyshire in the 2021 County Championship; he scored 11 runs off 141 balls.

David was signed by the Birmingham Phoenix in the first season of The Hundred; he replaced Finn Allen in the tournament.

Before making his test debut, David played 89 matches in English county and scored more than 6000 runs for Durham.

On his test debut against India, David scored a half-century and helped Proteas win the match; he scored 56 runs off 87 balls.

In February 2024, David scored his maiden test century against New Zealand; he scored 110 runs off 141 balls in the match.

In September 2024, David scored the highest individual score for Durham in English County Championship history against Lancashire, helping Durham win the match by an innings; he scored 279 runs off 259 balls.

David made headlines in 2025 when he postponed his wedding to play in the SA20 2025 Final, showcasing his passion for the sport.
