• He was raised in a catholic family.

• He belongs to German, Irish, and English ancestry.

• He started working for his father in his turkey coop (cage) manufacturing business when he was 7 years old. He worked there regularly after school for 5 cents an hour.

• Growing up in a small town, he often felt out of place and decided to move out of his home when he was only 10 years old.

• Once, as a punishment for annoying his siblings during the family trip, his parents made him get out of their car and run beside it.

• He started drinking when he was 10 years old and had trouble with alcoholism for more than 50 years of his life.

• He studied Political Science in college but dropped out after the third year.

• He talked about his reason for dropping out of college because of lacking a political background and money in an interview and said,
  

  To be in politics, you either need to come from a political family, you’re incredibly wealthy, or you’re the smartest person in any room you walk into. I was none of those things.”

• After dropping out of college, he became interested in improvisational comedy and joined the ImprovOlympic (now known as iO Theater), an improv theatre and training centre in central Chicago, U.S.A.

• He studied improvisation under Del Close, a famous improvisation coach of well-known comedians and comic actors.

• He is an alumnus of The Second City, an improvisational theatre troupe in Chicago.

• In 1995, he joined SNL (Saturday Night Live), an American late-night live sketch comedy show, and worked there for a year.

• In 1999, he joined his SNL colleague David “Gruber” Allen and formed a musical comedy act, called ‘The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show.’ David Koechner played the role of Gerald “T-Bones” Tibbons.

• He has starred in several films, including ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy’ (2004), ‘Thank You for Smoking’ (2005), ‘The Comebacks’ (2007),  and ‘Priceless’ (2016).
