In 2017, during the Faizabad sit-in, he mediated between the protestors of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan and the Pakistan's government. Him mediating was severely criticised and he was charged with acting beyond his authority. In 2024, he was relieved of the charges.

Accused of rigging elections
In 2018, Faiz Hameed was accused of rigging Pakistan's elections in favour of Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan by the former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif. Faiz Hameed was also accused of threatening the lawmakers to incline in favour of Imran Khan and his party.

Accused of judicial manipulations
In 2018, he was accused of judicial manipulations by the Islamabad High Court's (IHC) judge, Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, in the Panama Papers case that resulted in the disqualification of Pakistan's PM, Nawaz Sharif. Faiz Hameed denied the allegations, calling them false and baseless.

Accused in Al-Qadir Trust case
In May 2023, Pakistan’s former minister Faisal Vawda accused him of being the biggest beneficiary in the Al-Qadir Trust case which allegedly resulted in Pakistan's then Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife receiving billions of Pakistani Rupees and hundreds of kanals worth of land.

Court Martial
In 2023, Moeez Ahmed Khan,the owner of private housing society, Top City, filed a petition, accusing Faiz Hameed along with a few Pakistani rangers and ISI agents to have conducted an unlawful raid on the Top City office and the residence of Kunwar Khan in 2017. Thereafter, Moeez filed a petition claiming that Hameed had tried to negotiate with him and said that he would return all items, except 4.6 kg of gold and cash recovered during the raid. He was further charged with violating the terms of his retirement. On 12 August 2024, the process of Field General Court Martial was initiated against Faiz Hameed for corruption. Disciplinary action was also initiated under the provisions of Pakistan Army Act, 1952.

  • He is considered to be a close aide of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan.

  • In 2020, he acted as one of the chief mediators in the peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban which sought to end America’s war in Afghanistan, which began in 2001.
  • He had several meetings with Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor between 2020 and 2021 which led to the renewal of the ceasefire agreement on the Line of Control between India and Pakistan in 2021.
  • In 2021, it was reported that his wife shot him after she found him in his hotel room with another woman, who was termed as ‘General Rani’ by the media.
  • In September 2021, soon after the Taliban took over Afghanistan from America, he was seen drinking tea at Kabul’s Serena Hotel.

  • Pakistan’s former Prime minister, Imran Khan wanted Faiz Hameed’s term as the Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to be extended due to the unrest in Afghanistan after the Taliban’s takeover in 2021. The army, instead, announced Nadeem Anjum to be his replacement.
  • In September 2021, Afghan nationals in Delhi, India, protested against the presence of ISI in Afghanistan and painted the picture of Faiz Hameed with red coloured ink as a protest because of his relationship with the Taliban.

  • He is known as the ‘Butcher of Panjshir’ by the Afghans because he supports the Taliban who wiped out the resistance in the Panjshir Valley.
  • He retired from Pakistan’s army 4 months before the completion of his tenure on 10 December 2022 after the appointment of General Asim Munir as the army chief.
  • Pakistan’s military announced his arrest on 12 August 2024 on charges of corruption and violation of the army rules.
  • His brother, Sardar Najaf Hameed, was charged for playing a role in Hameed-led ISI’s raid on Moeez’s office in 2023.
  • He is the first ISI agent to get arrested and face court martial.
