ControversyU.S. Sanctions & Accusations of Antisemitism (June 2025)
In July 2025, the United States Department of the Treasury, under the Trump administration, imposed sanctions on Francesca Albanese by issuing Executive Order 14203, designating her as a "specially designated national." This action prohibits all U.S. persons and companies from conducting business with her, except for transactions necessary to end gradually any dealings involving Albanese, which is permitted until August 8, 2025.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, “Albanese’s campaign of political and economic warfare against the United States and Israel will no longer be tolerated.” In response, Francesca Albanese called the sanctions as "obscene," arguing that she was being punished for her pursuit of justice. Amnesty International criticised the sanctions as a "disgraceful affront to international justice," while the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal described the action as long overdue.
