Some Lesser Known Facts About Gopal Khemka

  • Gopal Khemka was born in Bihar in a Marwari family and later completed his MBBS degree before entering the business field.
  • In 1985, he co-founded GK Cotton Private Limited in Hajipur Industrial Area and began manufacturing packaging cartons.
  • During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he opened his first medical shop “Aushadhi Medico” on Ashok Rajpath in Patna.
  • Between 1990 and 2005, he expanded into multiple sectors including pharmaceuticals, fuel retail, and real estate across Patna and Hajipur.
  • In 1999, his brother, Vijay, was also attacked by unknown men but he survived.
  • Around 2010, he established Magadh Hospital in Rajendra Nagar, Patna, offering multi-speciality healthcare services to the local public.
  • He also owned a petrol pump on Fraser Road and operated multiple factories in Hajipur by the mid-2010s. Gopal remained politically active and served as state convener of BJP’s Laghu Udyog Cell in Bihar till the late 2010s.

  • On 10 December 2018, Gopal’s elder son Gunjan Khemka was shot dead outside his factory in Hajipur by unidentified attackers.
  • After his son’s death in December 2018, Gopal Khemka reduced public activity but remained involved in his business operations.
  • In 2018, Bihar Police provided him with a personal security guard after the murder of his son. In 2024, Bihar Police officially withdrew the security cover.
  • On 4 July 2025 around 11:38 PM, Gopal Khemka was shot near the gate of his building at Ramgulam Chowk, Patna. He had returned home from the Bankipore Club just before the attack and was shot in the head at close range.

  • Police recovered one bullet and a shell at the crime scene.
  • On 5 July 2025, an FIR No. 391/25 under Section 103 BNS and Section 27 Arms Act was lodged by his younger son, Dr Gaurav Khemka, at Gandhi Maidan Police Station, Patna. Dr Gaurav also requested police protection for himself and his family, citing fears after two family murders.

  • A video of the family members blaming the police for negligence went viral on social media after the incident.
  • A SIT was formed by Bihar Police on 5 July 2025, led by SP City Central Diksha, to investigate the murder.
  • Between 5 and 6 July 2025, Patna Police reviewed over 100 CCTV cameras and conducted raids in Patna, Hajipur and Sonepur. On 6 July 2025, police suspected jailed gangster Ajay Verma had ordered the killing from Beur Jail using smuggled mobile phones.
  • That same day, three jail warders of Beur Central Jail were suspended and two bullets were recovered during a search operation inside Beur Jail, Patna. On 6 July 2025, DGP Vinay Kumar claimed the case would be solved in one or two days based on strong leads.
  • By 6 July 2025, police confirmed the murder was a planned contract killing possibly linked to old property or business disputes.

  • After the incident, his family members and local people raised questions about the police’s response. The family said that even after giving information, the police reached the spot almost one and a half hours later.
  • On 6 July 2025, Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar clarified the matter. The DGP said that police did not receive information about the incident for around 45 minutes, which caused the delay.
  • According to police, shooters were hired from Patna City to carry out the murder. One of these shooters fired the bullet at Gopal Khemka’s head.
  • Police sources said that the main shooter’s name is Vijay, and three murder cases were already registered against him. Vijay is currently on the run, but police have detained some suspects linked to him.
  • Based on Vijay’s connections, police are conducting raids in Patna and other districts. Police caught two more criminals based on the information given by a detained suspect.
  • Meanwhile, one person, named Roshan Kumar, a resident of Punpun in Patna was taken into custody by police during Gopal Khemka’s cremation at Gulbi Ghat. That person had come with a flower bouquet, and sources say he may also be involved in the murder.
