Ibrahim Zadran made headlines in October 2023 after winning the match against Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup held in India. Zadran won the Man of the Match award for scoring 87 runs in the match following which he dedicated his award to Afghani refugees living in Pakistan who have been evicted by the Pakistani government and ordered to go back to Afghanistan. Many Pakistani people did not like his comments and took to social media to ridicule him and also said that Zadran was wrong for his opinion.

  • Ibrahim Zadran is an Afghani cricketer who has played many matches for Afghanistan in international tournaments. He made headlines for his performances as an opener in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
  • During his childhood, he once saw his uncle, Noor Ali Zadran, playing against India in the 2010 T20 World Cup held in West Indies in which Noor scored fifty following which Ibrahim started playing cricket as he liked that innings. He later trained at his family’s 2000 sq. meter farm in Khost, Afghanistan where he played with his brothers and cousins including Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who later played for Afghanistan national team as well.

  • On 11 August 2017, Ibrahim Zadran made his List A (one day) debut for the Mis Ainak Region against the Band-e-Amir Region in the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament and scored 32 runs and gave 17 runs in 2 overs without any wickets. On 12 September 2017, he debuted in T20s for the Mis Ainak Region against the Band-e-Amir Region in the Shpageeza Cricket League and conceded 8 runs in one over without any wickets. On 1 March 2018, he played his first-class match for Band-e-Amir Region against Amo Region in the Alokozay Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament and scored 9 runs in the first innings and 16 runs in the second innings.

  • He was the highest runscorer for the Afghanistan Under-19 team in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup (186 runs) and 2020 Under-19 World Cup (240 runs). In the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, he represented the Afghanistan Under-23 team.

  • He made 2 runs in the first ODI match in Lucknow, India. He made his first ODI century with 121 runs not out against Zimbabwe On 6 June 2022. On 2 June 2023, he made his maiden ODI fifty with 98 runs against Sri Lanka.

  • Ibrahim earned praise from cricket pundits for his performances in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He helped Afghanistan win the match against Pakistan by scoring 87 runs. He scored 129 runs not out against Australia which enabled Afghanistan to give a target of 292 runs; however, Glenn Maxwell’s hard-hitting innings won the match for Australia as he made 201 runs not out, making his double century.

  • He debuted in T20Is on 14 November 2019 against West Indies in Lucknow, India and scored 2 runs. He made his first T20I half-century on 8 September 2022 against India with a score of 64 runs. In the 2022 T20I World Cup held in Australia, Ibrahim Zadran played in the 3 matches and scored 80 runs at an average of 26.67 and a strike rate of 96.39.

In 2023, he represented Fortune Barishal Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and made 215 runs in 8 matches with the highest score of 52 runs. Ibrahim played for Boyne Hill in the 2021 Thames Valley Cricket League and scored 479 runs in 15 matches.
