  • In childhood, Kapil Parmar suffered a severe electric shock after he accidentally touched a water pump.
  • A villager found him unconscious and took him to a hospital in Bhopal, where he stayed in a coma for six months.
  • The immediate effect of the shock was that his fingers got stuck together. Over time, his vision worsened. Kapil Parmar has very limited eyesight, even with high-powered glasses.
  • He loved to play judo during his school days.

  • After his recovery, doctors advised him to gain weight so that he could participate in judo professionally.
  • During this time, Kapil Parmar learned about blind judo and was encouraged to pursue the game by his mentors, Bhagwan Das and Manoj.
  • Kapil and his brother used to run a tea stall to support themselves. His brother Lalit continued working on the tea stall to financially support Kapil.
  • He trains with coach Munawar Anzar Ali Siddiqui at the Indian Blind and Para Judo Academy in Lucknow.

  • On 5 September 2024, he made history by winning India’s first-ever Paralympic medal in judo at the Paris Games. He defeated Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira with an ‘Ippon’ (10-0 margin) in the men’s 60kg J1 bronze medal playoff.
