The TMC posted a video of Murmu on their social media accounts in which he was seen kissing a girl on the cheek during campaigning. However; while talking to a media house about the incident, he called it "an act of affection." Later, Murmu also clarified the situation and said that the girl was his known and he did just expressed affection and did not do anything inappropriate. • In an interview, Khagen Murmu discussed his decision to move from the Communist Party of India to the BJP and claimed that it was a spontaneous decision. He also said that the ideologies of the CPI (M) did not align with his ideologies. He said,
  

  You can say it was a very sudden, spontaneous decision. The Left Front’s ideologies, especially that of the leadership in Bengal, has somewhat deteriorated. From their ideals to their policies, things have changed a lot. See, policy-wise, things often change, it’s up to the organisation. But the ideals, that had to be compromised a lot. Things that we could not imagine doing, we were made to do.”
