Controversy | Saradha Group Chit Fund Case: On 14 April 2013, an FIR was filed against Kunal and others for not paying salaries and other statutory dues to a section of Saradha Group employees. On 24 November 2013, he was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate. About two months later, he was suspended from AITC party. - He passed his class 10 examinations in 1985.
- Kunal initially worked as a journalist and editor for some Bengali-language news channels like Channel 10. He hosted the show ‘Ek Phone Ek Lakh’ (aka 1 Phone 1 Lakh) on Channel 10.
- He once worked as a ‘message editor’ for Prabaha, the first private news magazine in Bengal.
- His first story was published in Anandabazar Patrika, a Bengali newspaper. He went on to contribute to various publications like Aajkal’s Khela Patrika.
- Kunal later joined the Saradha group and was soon appointed as the chief executive officer.
- He then became a senior editor at Sangbad Pratidin.
