Some Lesser Known Facts About L. Murugan
- In 1997, while in college, L. Murugan was inspired by Hindutva ideas and joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Later, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
- After completing his formal education, he practised as a lawyer for 15 years. He then served as the Standing Counsel for the Government of India at the Madras High Court.
- As a lawyer, L. Murugan has represented the BJP in various cases.
- He is fluent in English, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
- In the 2011 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, L. Murugan contested from the Rasipuram constituency on a BJP ticket but received 1800 votes.
- His parents live in a small roofed house near Namakkal in Tamil Nadu. The couple are daily wage earners. They work in the fields. In 2016, after his elder brother died, his parents took care of his widowed sister-in-law and nephew.
- In 2017, L. Murugan was appointed as the national general secretary of the Scheduled Caste (SC) division of the RSS. He served in the position till 2020.
- During the same period, he served as the vice-chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC). He resigned from the NCSC before his term ended and met senior BJP leaders.

- On 7 July 2021, during the Cabinet reshuffle, L. Murugan was sworn in as the Minister of State for the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
