M Anusuya began working as an assistant commissioner in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in December 2013.

In 2024, M Anusuya was appointed as a joint commissioner in the Customs, Excise, and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) in Hyderabad.

During the same year, she filed a request to change his name from M Anusuya to M. Anukathir Surya and her gender from female to male.

According to an order signed by the Under Secretary, Department of Revenue (Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs), Ministry of Finance, Anusuya’s request was approved on 9 July 2024.

The order stated that “the officer will be recognized as Mr. M. Anukathir Surya in all official records.”

The decision was approved by a competent authority and communicated to the chief commissioner at CESTAT, Hyderabad, where Anukathir Surya served as a joint commissioner.
