Some Lesser Known Facts About Patsy Ramsey
- Patsy Ramsey liked to participate in debate competitions while studying in high school.
- While studying in college, she was a member of the women’s fraternity named Alpha Xi Delta.
- She won the Miss West Virginia beauty pageant in her first year of college in 1977. Reportedly, she had studied the contest the previous year and made notes about it.
- Her mother got angry when she failed to win the Miss America title.
- She made headlines when she got married to John Bennet Ramsey, in 1980.
- She later started entering her daughter, JonBenet Ramsey, in child beauty pageants, she even won some of those.
- At the age of 36 in 1993, Patsy Ramsey was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer stage 4.
- Just one day after Christmas 1996, on December 26, she called the Colorado Police Department and told them that her daughter was kidnapped, and the intruder had demanded a ransom of $118k.
- 7 hours later, JonBenet was found in the basement of her house by Patsy’s husband, John Bennett Ramsey. Her murder was the only killing in Boulder, Colorado in 1996.
- Boulder law enforcement officials later claimed that the parents were also suspects in the murder case. She and her husband defended themselves during interviews and claimed that an intruder killed their daughter.
- In 2002, the ovarian cancer returned after 9 years of remission.
- She died at her father’s house because of ovarian cancer while her husband was by her side. Her last words were, “We’re going to get through this.“
