- Prabath began playing cricket at Christ Church College in Matale before joining the Lumbini College in Colombo.
- On 6 December 2011, Prabath made his List-A debut in cricket for the Colombo Cricket Club against the Sri Lanka Army during the 2011/12 Premier Limited Over Tournament.
- Prabath made his first-class debut playing for the Colombo Cricket Club against Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club on 10 February 2012 during the 2011/12 Premier League Tournament Tier B.
