  • Her father passed away when she was seven years old.
  • As a child, Puja Tomar used to help her mother in farming.
  • She participated in sports during her school days and enjoyed watching wushu and boxing, trying to imitate the athletes.
  • Some of her neighbours used to practice wushu, and Puja Tomar spent hours watching them. She tried to copy what she saw and used the limited facilities in her area to practice it.
  • She learned karate and taekwondo in school but did not enjoy the games as they did not include the hard punches. She won multiple medals in both disciplines.
  • By the age of 12, Puja Tomar felt that she needed to move to a bigger city for better opportunities. She then asked her mother for better training in mixed martial arts.
  • After that, she moved from Muzaffarnagar to Meerut to improve her athletic skills.
  • She joined a mixed martial arts training centre in Meerut and began training in wushu, karate, and kickboxing.
  • Puja Tomar won her first medal in MMA at the sub-junior national level when she was 12 years old and later joined the Sports Authority of India in Bhopal.
