Controversy | In March 2023, she was suspended by the Assam government in connection to a case of financial irregularities and misappropriation of funds. According to a report, she opened five bank accounts without the approval of the Assam government when she was serving as the Executive cum Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). The notification about her suspension read, It has also been reported she was the sole signatory and FRBM rules were not followed in respect of opening those 5 accounts. A report of enquiry on the functioning of ODL under SCERT found financial irregularities and very credible references of the misappropriation of fund.” Her suspension is placed under rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Disciple and Appeal) Rules, 1969. In April 2023, it was reported that she and her contractor son-in-law Ajit Pal Singh were accused of embezzling Rs. 105 crores without showing any work order. According to some media reports, she was alleged of opening a fake institution constructing a smart class with a budget of Rs. 13 crores. Other education officers and personnel who were involved in scamming Rs. 100 crores including NL Sonowal, Jaychandra Lashkar, Ramizuddin Ahmed and fourth-class employee Rubul Ali were also investigated.
