The Department of Vigilance conducted raids on the Central Procurement Agency in May 2026 for alleged irregularities in the procurement of medical equipment and medicines at its office. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered by the Anti Corruption Branch, ACB on 2 June 2026 on the complaint received from the Directorate of Vigilance. The complaint stated that the Central Procurement Agency, under the Directorate General of Health Services, procured medicines, surgical consumables, other consumables and medical equipment in a large number of irregularities. Investigators stated that officials had twisted tender conditions, procurement processes and technical specifications to favour certain suppliers and bar other bidders. The charges related to the acquisition of portable X ray machines, bed sheets, linen items, C arm radiological equipment, anaesthesia workstations, oral rehydration solution, surgical consumables and medicines at allegedly high prices. The Delhi government had filed an application under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act for investigation of allegations against Dr Aggarwal and Deputy Controller of Accounts Neeraj Chopra in the procurement process during the investigation. Authorities also suspended Dr Aggarwal so he can be disciplined. Dr Vijay Kumar Ranga, who was the Head of Office of the Central Procurement Agency, was arrested by the Anti Corruption Branch on 18 June 2026. Later, a court in Delhi remanded him to the police custody. The Delhi government has also slapped five pharmacy owners and two officials of the Central Procurement Agency with a ban for allegedly irregular procurement, storage and management of medicines. On 27 June 2026, Anti Corruption Branch had arrested Dr Vatsala Aggarwal and Deputy Controller of Accounts Neeraj Chopra in the alleged procurement case. The officials were issued with a warrant to fetch documentary and electronic evidence and to trace missing procurement records, both before a court in Delhi and by seeking police custody. |
