Shan Masood belongs to a rich and affluential family, and his father also served as a member of the governing board of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). In November 2019, Shan Masood was playing for Southern Punjab against Northern Punjab at Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot in a match in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He showed dissatisfaction towards the umpire's decision when he was given out for which fined 25% of his match fee. Masood denied the charges levelled by the on-field umpires Abdul Moqeet and Farooq Ali Khan; however, the match referee Kamran Chaudhry later upheld the decision in the hearing. It was stated that Masood violated clause 2.8 of the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which is related to showing obvious disappointment with the umpires’ decision when given out caught behind.

  • His family returned to Pakistan after the start of the 1990 Gulf War due to Kuwait’s invasion by Iraq and moved to Karachi. When he was five years old, he started playing cricket. His father supported him, and he played cricket while studying in school and college.

  • Shan Masood’s father, Mansoor Masood Khan, played hockey at the provincial level in Pakistan and is a cricket lover as well. Mansoor was watching the ODI between Pakistan and the West Indies at Sharjah, in which Wasim Akram took a hat-trick at the time of Shan’s birth on 14 October 1989.

  • He became the first player to score 1000 runs in the County Championship 2022 while playing for Derbyshire which also included three double-centuries; he also became the first Derbyshire batsman to score consecutive double-centuries. In the County Championship 2023, he became the second overseas player to become a captain of a county team by captaining Yorkshire.
