Some Lesser Known Facts About Shekar Basha

On 10 April 2005, Shekar Basha began his career as a video jockey on the Telugu music channel Gemini Music.

He hosted over 3,000 live shows on the Gemini Music channel, but he became well-known for his work on two particular shows titled ‘Hi Bujji,’ a kids-themed TV show, and ‘SundayHum-Sandeham,’ a live comedy show with a teacher-student theme.

He worked as a video jockey at Sun Network Limited in Hyderabad from April 2005 to April 2012.

In November 2006, Shekar Basha joined Red FM 93.5 (earlier called S FM) in Hyderabad. He hosted two shows titled ‘Thellarindoi Mama’ (Breakfast Show) and ‘Guroo Hoja Shuro’ (Afternoon Show).

During his period at the show ‘Guroo Hoja Shuro’ in 2007, he popularized the phrase ‘kevvu keka,’ which became so famous that it was used as the title for films, television programs, and song lyrics, such as in Pawan Kalyan‘s film ‘Gabbar Singh’ and the films made by Allari Naresh.

In August 2007, Shekar Basha shifted from Red FM 93.5 to Big FM, where he took over the show ‘Big Sandadi,’ which was earlier hosted by Telugu television anchor and actress Jhansi.

In September 2007, he did a 92.7-hour non-stop radio show on Telugu radio station Big FM.

On 27 May 2008, ‘Big Sandadi’ was named the Best Radio Show of the Year by the India Radio Forum. Shekar Basha often greeted listeners with ‘Happy mornings’ instead of ‘Good morning,’ a slogan that became popular.

From 12 August to 16 August 2008, he hosted a 100-hour radio show from a mobile studio to promote peace and unity during a time of high alert in Hyderabad.

After the Telangana state was formed, the show was renamed ‘Sallaam Telangana’ to honour the new state, and it won the ‘Best Breakfast Show (Telugu) 2017’ award.

Apart from being a radio and video jockey, Shekar Basha is also a producer who has produced award-winning promos and funny clips such as ‘Kotigadu & Raogaru,’ ‘BigBaba,’ ‘Sangeetham Mastar,’ ‘Google Gurooji,’ and ‘Anandam Paramaanandam.’

From 13 August to 16 August 2018, Shekar Basha hosted a 72-hour non-stop radio show to raise awareness about the effects of using disposable plastic products.

A survey by The Times of India, published on 18 May 2018, described Shekar Basha as ‘the original radio guru’ who gained much praise for his unique infotainment style.
