Controversies | • Sued Outlook magazine In 2015, Smita Sued one of the countries leading news magazine, Outlook, after it describes her as 'Eye-Candy'. The magazine also published a caricature of her showing her walking a ramp of a fashion show; while her political bosses leering at her. Smita wants a defamation case worth 10 crores against the magazine. Telangana Government announced to assist Smita in her lawsuit against Outlook Magazine by providing her 15 Lac rupees. • Disability quota post In July 2024, her Twitter post questioning the need for quotas for differently-abled individuals in civil services attracted controversy. She tweeted, "With all due respect to the differently-abled, does an airline hire a pilot with disability? Or would you trust a surgeon with a disability? The nature of the #AIS (IAS/IPS/IFoS) is field-work, long taxing hours, listening first hand to people’s grievances-which requires physical fitness.
