• In an interview, Sonia revealed that when she was in her school and college, she joined National Cadet Corps (NCC) that helped her to gain exposure in military training.

• After her college, she prepared for and cleared the UPSC Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandant) examination to become an officer in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

• In an interview, Sonia revealed that during her CRPF training, she suffered a serious injury that required 52 stitches; however, instead of quitting her job, she successfully completed her CRPF training.

• As a RAF officer, Sonia has taken part in several public order and crowd-control duties.

• During the protest she got injured while performing crowd-control duties. She reportedly suffered a fractured in her arm and shoulder injury. According to Delhi police more than 118 police personnel were injured in the violence and registered multiple FIRs.

• CJP leader alleged that RAF personnel assaulted women protester, however, in an interview, Sonia denied the allegation of CJP and said,

It was not done by my jawans, neither intentionally nor unintentionally. They are manned and trained to save women.”

• She added that, she hot injured while trying to rescue women protesters. She said,

When I fell to the ground, stones and shoes were being thrown at me. They even took off my helmet.”

• Two days after the protest, she came into news for sharing an Instagram story from her account, where she showed a dead cockroach with a caption,

CAN’T FIX THEMSELVES AND THEY WANNA FIX THE COUNTRY.”

• The CJP described her story shocking and on X it wrote,

This RAF official actually sees the peaceful protesters as cockroaches and thinks that the brutality of the police was justified because of that. But you see, we are cockroaches. And cockroaches never die!”

• After facing criticism, Sonia Sehrawat deleted the story from her Instagram account.

• According to senior CRPF officers, in 2023 CRPF introduced social media guidelines to ensure responsible online behaviours by its personnel. The rules prohibit sharing personal grievances, posting in anger or under the influence of alcohol, revealing confidential information, or disclosing details about posting and duties in sensitive units. At the time, the force was led by Director General S L Thaosen.

• After Sehrawat’s controversy, the force is examining whether Sonia violated its social media rules or not. As of 24 July 2026, no final decision has been taken and she will be given an opportunity to explain her actions before any actions against her is considered.

The matter is being examined, and her explanation is likely to be sought.”
