Some Lesser Known Facts About Sumit
- He used to participate in wrestling as a young kid. But looking at the requirements of his diet, his parents made him quit wrestling.
- As a kid, he was also interested in playing cricket.
- In an interview, Sumit talked about his journey in hockey and said that one day, his mother asked Amit to take him to play hockey along with him.
- After reaching the playground, the village hockey coach gifted Sumit shoes and a hockey stick on his first day. This motivated him to continue playing hockey.
- As a child, Sumit worked with Amit in Mohan Kamboj Vaishno Dhaba in Murthal, Sonepat, Haryana, and helped him with cleaning the dhaba. Often, the restaurant owners would allow him to take the leftover food for his family.
- Sumit has received his training from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence in Bahalgarh, Sonepat.
- He was a member of the winning Indian team at the Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup in 2016.
- He was a member of the Indian team that won the FIH Series Finals held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in 2019.
- He had made a promise to his mother to take her to Tokyo for the Olympics, but she passed away a few months before the Olympics.
- He got a locket made with his mother’s photograph made out of her earrings which he then took to the Tokyo Olympics.
