Between 1997 and 2003, Sumitra Mahajan along with her son Milind Mahajan were being accused of being involved in a scam related to the Maharashtra Brahmin Cooperative Bank where Milind Mahajan was one of the directors of the bank. The complaint was filed by the chairperson of the bank ; however, it was removed after the investigation.
