• In 1977, Suraiya Khanum started her singing career with Radio Multan in Multan, Pakistan.

• Suraiya Khanum’s first TV appearance was in 1980 when she sang a cover of the Pakistani folk song titled ‘Yaar Dhadi’ which was sung originally by Ustad Muhammad Juman Khan.

• Suraiya Khanum considers Ustad Muhammad Juman Khan, folk singer Tufail Niazi, Reshma, and Iqbal Bano her biggest influence in singing.

• Suraiya Khanum was formally trained by Ustad Faiz Ahmed for 21 years and Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for another 8 years.

• She has sung songs in many languages including Urdu, Kashmiri, Pushto, and Balochi.

• In 2015, Suraiya Khanum became part of season 8 of Coke Studio Pakistan when she sang the folk song titled ‘Chiryan Da Chamba’ which also featured a recitation by the Pakistani writer Anwar Maqsood.
