Some Lesser Known Facts About Surya Keerthi
- Surya Keerthi is an Indian wildlife conservationist, animal rescuer, and conservation speaker from Mysore, Karnataka. He rose to fame after a video of him went viral on social media in which he could be seen taking care of a gravid Spectacled Cobra who was fighting for his life after a vehicle had run over it. He is the son of Snake Shyam, a wildlife conservationist who appeared as a contestant on season 10 of the reality TV show Bigg Boss Kannada.
- As a child, Surya used to accompany his father to the rescue sights and observe the rescue work, which led him to develop a curiosity about snakes. Soon, he was trained in identifying poisonous and non-poisonous snakes by his father.
- In an interview, while sharing that he has been interested in snakes since he was 3 years old, Surya said,
I remember a documentary was being shot on my dad, I must have been 3 years old. And I was crying because I wanted to hold a snake. That is when dad reached out inside a bag and removed a small slender snake and handed it over to me. I used to bring small trinket snakes to my room and try to observe their behaviour. As I grew older, I accompanied dad on some rescues, rescued some non-venomous snakes on my own, and then slowly advanced to rescuing venomous snakes.”
