- Tom Homan was interested in law enforcement as his father worked in the army and later in police service.
- In 1984, after completing his studies, he joined the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
- He later became the first director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director who had come through the ranks.
- In 2014, he came up with a theory that illegal border crossings could be lowered if they separated children from their parents.
- He had retired but when President Donald Trump asked him to become the head of ICE, he accepted the role.
- He once revealed an incident in 2019 that solidified his resolve to stop the illegal border crossings. In 2003, he once found a trailer in Victoria, Texas where 19 people had died including a 5-year-old boy who died due to suffocation.
- He also talked about an incident when a person crossed the border illegally but was attacked by coyotes. That person had one leg in his hand when Homan found him.
