  • When Usha started her career as an actor, her name was changed from ‘Haseena’ to ‘Usha’ at the suggestion of actor and director Balachandra Menon. He believed that the name ‘Haseena’ might create problems while filming in temples.

  • Usha faced criticism from her relatives and community members for changing her name. However, she continued to use the name ‘Usha’ throughout her career.
  • Usha has appeared in many Malayalam films including ‘Kandathum Kettathum’ (1988), ‘Kireedam’ (1989), ‘Pavam Pavam Rajakumaran’ (1990), ‘Chenkol’ (1993), ‘God’s Own Country’ (2014), ‘Lolans’ (2018), and ‘Cheena Trophy’ (2023).

  • While working on a project in Bahrain in 1992, a senior actor misbehaved with Usha in an elevator. She immediately slapped him and later informed actors Mohanlal and Sukumari, who supported her. After the incident, Usha was labelled ‘arrogant’ and gradually sidelined in the industry.
  • Usha later started dating director T. S. Suresh Babu. However, her father opposed the relationship because he felt Suresh was a poor match for Usha and was concerned about the potential negative impact on her life and career.
  • Usha’s father was so upset with her relationship with Suresh that he spoke to actor Mammootty and requested him to discuss the matter with Suresh to make him understand. Mammootty talked to Suresh, but he continued dating Usha.
  • Usha was very young when she married T. S. Suresh Babu. However, their marriage ended in divorce. Later, she raised her two children on her own without any financial support from Suresh.
