Some Lesser Known Facts About Vedika Thakur

• Vedika Thakur was an Indian student who is known for being murdered by BJP MLA Priyansh Vishwakarma in Jabalpur in 2023.

• On June 16, 2023, she was shot by Priyansh Vishwakarma in his office located in Dhanvantari Nagar which caused her severe injuries. Instead of taking her to the hospital right away, Priyansh drove around in his car with her for about four hours. Eventually, he brought her to Smart City Hospital and then fled from the hospital with the pistol used in the shooting and the CCTV records from his office. Priyansh later contacted Vedika’s brother to inform him about the incident and her family came to the hospital.

• Two days later, on 18 June 2023, a video showed Vedika being treated at the hospital. In the video, she was heard confirming that Priyansh was the person who shot her. However, she also mentioned that she was unaware of the motive behind the shooting.

• On 19 June 2023, Priyansh was apprehended by the police in the Narsinghpur district. After his arrest, he confessed to shooting Vedika. He arrived at the Dhanwantri Nagar police station in a black Scorpio with BJP flags. Initially, the police did not file a case within 24 hours. However, after Vedika’s relatives started questioning the police’s inaction, a case was finally registered against Priyansh at the Sanjeevani Nagar police station under IPC section 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 25, 26 of the Arms Act.

• Vedika’s uncle, Ashok Thakur said that initially, there was some improvement, but unfortunately, her condition deteriorated due to the presence of the bullet in her back, which caused an infection in her whole body. She also underwent a stomach operation. However, her condition continued to worsen, leading the doctors to place her on a ventilator on 24 June 2023. However, her organs started to fail, and on 26 June 2023, at around 11:30 am, the doctors declared her deceased. The doctors explained that Vedika’s organs were gradually failing, and even after a week since the incident, it was not possible to remove the bullet from her spinal cord.

• Following Vedika’s tragic demise, the police pressed the charges of murder against Priyansh. The police sent the bullet extracted from Vedika’s body to send it to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further investigation.

• In light of the incident, the BJP released an official statement denying any affiliation of Priyansh with their party. BJP Jabalpur president Prabhat Sahu issued a press release and stated,
  

  Priyansh Vishwakarma, a resident of Ganganagar, a suspect in the recent firing, does not hold any position in the Bharatiya Janata Party.”
