  • On 6 September 2024, Vikrant Kumar Jaitley was taken into custody in the UAE for a national security case. Reportedly, he was arrested while visiting a mall with his wife.
  • His sister, Celina Jaitly, filed a petition about his arrest. She said that her brother was arrested illegally and held without reason. The family has not been able to contact him since his arrest.

  • Her plea raised serious concerns about Vikrant Jaitley’s safety. It said that there was no clear information about the charges or the investigation.

  • In November 2025, Celina Jaitly went to the Delhi High Court for help. She asked the court to take action for her brother, Vikrant Jaitley, who had been held in the United Arab Emirates for more than 14 months.

  • She asked the Indian government, through the Ministry of External Affairs, to help her brother. She requested proper legal and medical support for her brother.

  • Soon, Justice Sachin Datta of the Delhi High Court sent a notice to the Central government. The court ordered the government to report within four weeks on the detention case of Major Retired Vikrant Kumar Jaitly.

  • Celina Jaitly hired lawyers Raghav Kacker and Madhav Agarwal to represent her brother’s case in the Delhi High Court.

  • They added that there was little information about why he was detained or what the alleged charges were.

  • Celina Jaitly claimed that she reached every possible way to get the Ministry of External Affairs’ help for her brother.

  • She had also filed a complaint on the MADAD portal and sent written appeals to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate in Dubai.

  • Celina said that she personally met Ministry officials and spent a lot of time, effort, and money seeking help. She mentioned that her brother got only four consular visits in May, June, August, and September 2025, even though he had been detained for more than a year.

  • She also claimed that the Ministry of External Affairs marked her complaint on the MADAD portal as ‘closed’ while her brother’s case was still unsolved.

  • After the November 2025 hearing, the court ordered the authorities to arrange legal help for Vikrant Kumar Jaitly.

  • It also directed them to make sure he could communicate with his family. Celina described the decision as a ‘ray of hope’ for her family.
